Introducing a range of Moving Coil Cartridges from Japan - Hana - 華 (hana means “brilliant and gorgeous” in Japanese). The Hana low and high output moving coil cartridges have been winning reviewer praise and awards since their introduction to the UK in 2015.
Hana MC Phono Cartridges use high rigidity aluminium cantilevers and cross-shaped armatures, providing a ‘brilliant and gorgeous’ sound at competitive price points for Moving Coil (MC) Cartridges of this sound quality.
Manufactured by Excel Sound Corporation, a 50 year old company based in Tokyo, specialising in MC cartridges, with particular expertise in high output MC cartridges and OEM cartridge parts manufacture and OEM cartridge supply. They are perhaps seen as one of those slightly underground Japanese companies - who certainly will not reveal which cartridge brands they have manufactured for over the years.
The M series phono cartridges are based on the foundations of the achievements of the previous series of HANA cartridges (translated into Polish - "brilliant and wonderful"). The new phono cartridge is available in a version with low or high output level (ML / MH), it continues the tradition of exceptional HANA cartridges, which is characterized by the use of the highest quality materials, exceptional technological processing with meticulous quality control at every stage of production.

The M series offers the Nude Microline cut, the shape of which is similar to the profile of the stylus cutting the groove when creating the plate matrix. This improves the tracking of the disc groove, which is manifested in capturing the most delicate musical details, better reproduction of frequencies, stereo and resolution.
The cartridge coil is made of wire, copper of the highest quality and purity, this allows for greater sound clarity for both the low output level of the ML cartridge and the high level of the MH cartridge. In addition, the ML version has very low impedance, allowing it to provide optimized performance for a wider range of phono preamplifiers.
The liner body is made of POM (polyoxymethylene), which is commonly known as Delrin ©. It is a high-tech polymer with improved mechanical properties. This results in better resonance damping and at the same time allows for obtaining a large amount of low-range information and increasing the dynamic range.
The cartridge has integrated holes with threads in its body for easier mounting in the turntable head. A good combination of the cartridge and the tonearm head provides better bass and dynamics. In addition, a brass "cap" is placed in the body, which, in addition to the damping effect, will add some additional weight to the cartridge, which weighs 9.5 g. The greater weight allows it to be used with a wider range of tonearms.
